Remembrance 2020
An exceptional year because of the COVID 19 pandemic and lockdown
which prevented our
normal Remembrance Service in church and required us to have a
"slimmed" down service at the
war memorial. This was conducted with appropriate safeguards
following a full risk assessment
prepared by the churchwarden in consultation with the Parish
Council. Wing Commander Kevin
Latchman of RAF 99 Squadron attended and laid a wreath on behalf of
the
RAF. He was prepared for a short address in church and
fortunately he has provided the link
for us all to hear his remarks via
Ytube Other wreaths were laid
by Ben Campion on behalf of the
Parish Council and Shelagh Chatterton on behalf of the WI.
Jacquie Griifin played the saxophone
and Gary Griffin read the exhortation. The service was
conducted by Rev Ian Howard, Team Vicar. Pictures of the event by Mary Holmes and
Gary Griffin can be found below. A
video was taken by the
Parish Clerk. Click on images to enlarge.
In the meantime an
online service was streamed from St John the
Evangelist Church
On Wednesday 11th November the Primary
School attended the war memorial in groups. The younger
pupils laid crosses in rows by the war memorial and the older pupils
observed the 2 minutes
silence and read their poems. These and their posters were
displayed as usual around the war
memorial. Click in then image to enlarge.
